Spring is a great time to enjoy the outdoors, and what better place to enjoy them than the park? Parks offer a calm retreat from busy weeks, and make for the perfect destination for a weekend stay-cation.  We’ve created a list of our favorite parks to visit when you need a little quiet time in the fresh air.

Central Park

We’re sure you saw this one coming.  It is one of the most famous parks in the world, and has been a mainstay of movie locations for years.  With beautiful gardens and clusters of city-slick wildlife, this park has it all for those looking to relax in the urban jungle.  At 1.37 square miles, we’re sure you’ll find a spot to make your own.

Manuel F. Correllus State Forest

This forest sits smack dab in the center of Martha’s Vineyard, and at 5,343 acres it’s hard to miss when you venture inland.  Originally created in the early 1900s as a Heath Hen Reserve to prevent the bird’s extinction, this park boasts a healthy plethora of flora and fauna. Unfortunately, the only Heath Hen left is in the form of an honorary statue in the park.  Now it is frequented by cyclists and hikers curious about the amalgam of creatures who call the park home sweet home.

Gateway Park: Sandy Hook

Now that the weather is getting warmer, a park with an oceanside view sounds like a pretty good idea.  With seven miles of ocean beaches, marshes, trails and one of the oldest surviving lighthouse, there are endless things to see here. After a bout with Hurricane Sandy, Sandy Hook is open for business (or pleasure) once again.
