Ahhh, Memorial Day. Marking the official start to summer, this celebrated day turned weekend-long vacation offers so many possibilities in the way of food, fun and sun. Why not kick off the season with a few events around the city?
Let Memorial Day be music to your ears with two great, FREE concerts happening on either ends of New York. In Brooklyn, pack a blanket and chill on the grass for the student run ISO Symphonic Band, a wind, brass and percussion ensemble. Since it’s in Greenwood Cemetery, you can expect to see such architectural treats like Fred Ebb, Louis Moreau Gottschalk and Leonard Bernstein. Register prior to the concert so they know how many people to expect.
Monday, May 26, 2:30 pm – 5:00 pm
Greenwood Cemetery
500 25th St
Sunset Park, Brooklyn
Enjoy the Memorial Day Concert at St. John the Divine by the New York Philharmonic Orchestra. It’s rare a performance of this caliber is free, so make sure you get there before 6pm, as that’s when tickets (which are required) will be distributed. It is first come, first serve so timing is everything!
However, if you miss out on tickets you can still hear the performance. The audio will be broadcast onto the adjacent Pulpit Green, weather permitting.
