Camping season will soon be upon us, so we’ve compiled a list of the essentials needed for a great camping trip.

Food and Water – Staying hydrated and satiated is crucial for having a great camping experience. Be sure to bring plenty of water and food, in case the fish aren’t biting that day. Some camping staples include: water, s’mores, beans, corn, freshly caught fish and anything else that can be cooked over a fire.

Tent – Even if you’d like to lay under the stars all night, it helps to have a tent in case the elements are not on your side. Practice setting up the tent before the camping trip to familiarize yourself with the process. Always set up a tent as soon as you get to the campgrounds since pitching a tent in the dark will prove to be a great deal more challenging.

Personal Hygiene Items – If the campgrounds have showers, feel free to bring shampoo, soap, and other hygiene items. If they do not, just bring the essentials and make sure anything you use is made for camping or outdoor use. We like J.R. Liggett’s Shampoo Bar and Sea to Summit: Trek & Travel Liquid Conditioning Shampoo.

First Aid Supplies – Accidents and injuries happen, especially when you’re enjoying the great outdoors and the bugs are enjoying you! Bring a basic first aid kit, bug spray and sunblock to ensure that you’re protected from all of the elements.

Clothing – Even if you’re only going to be camping for a night or two, it’s always a good idea to bring an extra set of clothes, especially extra socks! And keep in mind that although the weather may be hot and humid throughout the day, it usually gets considerably cooler at night. Dress accordingly.

Lighting – Don’t be caught in the dark! Bring flashlights and headlamps in case you need to find your way around at night because the campfire should always be extinguished before everyone goes to bed.

If you’re looking for a great spot to camp in with easy access to the beach, try Martha’s Vineyard! Getting there is easy with Seastreak, just load up your backpacks and enjoy the relaxing ride. If you’re a cyclist, we have plenty of room onboard for your bikes!
