Take a Miniature Island Vacation at Miss Lily’s 7A Cafe

It’s not too often we can get away with using questionable language here, but lately, we’ve been breaking it out right and left. Last week, you “heard” us use both the C-word and the S-word without too much shame. (Christmas shopping…and hey, while we’re on the subject, did you know that Seastreak gift certificates make fantastic and easy gifts for the commuters on your list?) Today, we’re slinging around the word “jerk”. Jerk grilled corn. Jerk wings. Jerk pork. Jerk…ramen? If you’re curious now, you’ve got to head for Miss Lily’s 7A Café! It’s at 109 Avenue A, and it’s serving up some of the tastiest Jamaican food around!

Rasta Pasta

Miss Lily’s 7A Café is a happy, colorful little dose of Caribbean charm, right in the heart of Manhattan. The chefs endeavor to create dishes that draw on the roots of Jamaican cooking, bursting with flavor and fiery spices. From classic oxtail stew, to their Jamaican spin on the patty melt, you’ll get a tiny taste of the islands in every mouth-watering bite.

So what, exactly, is jerk ramen? It starts with jerk broth, and adds in jerk chicken, pork belly, egg, shoyu-marinated ackee, and fermented scotch bonnet pepper paste. This unique soup will warm you up on a cold day, no doubt about it. For another delicious belly heater, try the West Indian curry vegetable stew, with grilled okra, buss up shot, and tamarind chutney.

Juicing It Up

Connected to Miss Lily’s 7A Café is Melvin’s Juicebox, the perfect complement to your Jamaican meal. Melvin’s serves 100% organic juices, made with an eye towards health and vitality. Don’t mistake these for bland concoctions peddled as healthy but tasting like watered-down wallpaper paste. The flavors are bright and vivid, and the ingredient combinations creative.
