Pigs are pretty amazing creatures. Humans have thought so for quite a long time. We domesticated them somewhere between 5,000 and 7,000 years ago, and since then, they’ve been everything from mushroom hunters to delicious breakfast food. (Let us take this moment to thank the inventor of bacon. You are an inspiration to us all.) It’s only right to praise our prodigious porcine pals with a celebration of their own! Head to Andaz 5th Avenue (at 485 5th Avenue) on Sunday, January 25th for Cochon 555, and take part in a culinary celebration of the pig!
The City’s Best Pig Gig
The food scene is rapidly remembering why local farms play an important part in high-quality cuisine. Cochon 555’s New Porc City provides the perfect stage for the city’s finest chefs, butchers, and bakers to show off what responsible family farming offers to the hungry masses. 2015 marks the celebration’s seventh year, and it has grown to attract some of our area’s most exciting talent. They’re out to win people over to the cause, one bite at a time!
Going Whole Hog
Watch five chefs compete to cook a pig, snout to tail, and utilize the whole hog while they create up to six unforgettable dishes! These chefs include such food-scene luminaries as Francis Derby of The Cannibal, and Hooni Kum of Danji, and will be judged by last year’s winner, Seamus Mullen of Tertulia.
Other events include a Pop-Up Butcher Shop, tastings of wines from Wines of Germany and St. Francis Wines, and more. You can even test out bourbons and whiskies from Eagle Rare, Buffalo Trace, and Breckenridge Bourbon!
After you’ve finished being swined and dined, head home on a Seastreak ferry. Our luxurious catamarans are the most comfortable way to get across the bay!
Sea you soon!
