So you’re sick to death of the sound of silver bells, and you’ve about reached your last noel, but you’re not quite ready for a silent night. No problem! The end of the holiday carols has arrived, and you can cleanse your musical palette with some of the best jazz music around. From January 8 to January 10, you can immerse yourself in the energizing sounds of today’s best jazz artists at Winter Jazzfest 2015! It’s happening in venues all over the city!
All That Jazz
Your favorite modern jazz artists are all headed to New York to play a variety of exciting and entertaining shows that cover the broad, diverse spectrum of jazz styles. See the brightest stars of the jazz scene, such as Bill Charlap, Jose James, George Coleman, Brad Mehldau, and more! There’s bound to be a venue near you, as the festival sprawls through the Greenwich Village area.
One of the most exciting shows of this festival is the Blue Note Now, on January 8 at Le Poisson Rouge (158 Bleecker Street). This one features the Robert Glasper Trio. Jazz fans will know of Robert Glasper from his Grammy-winning “Black Radio” album. It featured such talented guests as Faith Evans, Patrick Stump (of Fallout Boy), Norah Jones, Snoop Dogg, and Luke James, and earned the group a lot of acclaim.
Music for a Cause
Also on Thursday, to warm up the weekend event’s festivities, is a benefit concert for the Disability Pride fundraiser. It’s taking place at the Quaker Friends Meeting Hall (15 Rutherford Place). The price of tickets is even tax deductible! Get a start on next year’s giving, and enjoy great music in the process.
