A sculpture garden is not the first thing that comes to mind when I, at least, think of Socrates. My mind tends to veer off towards either teaching methods or hemlock. And it’s certainly not the first thing I think of when I think Halloween (though there’s admittedly some crossover there with the holiday and the hemlock). But the Socrates Sculpture Park is bringing the two of these things together this year on Saturday October 24th, from 11am to 3pm, in what promises to be an event filled with fun, culture, and face paint.
…and Your Little Dog, Too
Although it may be happening a wee bit earlier than Halloween, many of these creatures are a wee bit on the small side. That’s right, it’s time for the Halloween Harvest Festival’s feature presentation of (and for) your precious pets! While there will be many things to do with them, perhaps the most memorable is the Annual Juried Canine Contest, where your pooch can compete for first place in a costume contest! And at the end of the festivities, Urban Shaman Mama Donna will favor all present, dogs and others alike, with a special pet blessing.
Busy Hands
But your pet isn’t the only one who will get to have fun at this event! There are plenty of things for humans to do, too! From 11am to 2pm, Socrates Artists and the Freestyle Art Association will be leading workshops in costumes and art-making. And from noon until 3pm, Agostina Arts will be offering face painting! Make sure to check out these hands-on workshops for a chance to work with some of the best in the business.
A Harvest and a Show
And, of course, if you get bored and tired of doing all of these other things — or just want to see something interesting — there are shows to watch! At 11:30am, and again at 2:30pm, Midnight Radio Show will be putting on shadow puppet performances. And from noon to 1pm, The Dance Theater of Nepal will be performing the traditional Gai Jatra Harvest Festival performance.
So if you’re one someone who never thought they’d be doing Halloween activities in a sculpture park (which is probably most of you) here’s your chance to surprise yourself! And make sure to travel via Seastreak! Even if they are fun festivals, it’s in a sculpture park — you probably need to maintain some level of civility. We’ll make sure you get there with enough “civilized” to last you through the afternoon. No need to thank us — it’s just what we do.
Sea you Soon!
