Get ready to laugh and sing because here comes the New York Musical Improv Festival! 2015 is the 7th Annual showing of this wonderful festival, which runs from October 15th-18th at New York’s Magnet Theater. Tickets are on sale now, so you can hurry on over to the website and reserve your seat while there are still some left in the house.
The Festival features a wide variety of talented — and hilarious — musical comedy improvisers, so don’t content yourself with just one! Let’s take a peek at just a few from opening night.
Stefan Definitely
This show, on Thursday, October 15th, at 7pm, revolves around a washed-up rock star who had several very successful albums back in his heyday. Now, he and his two band mates are touring the country on a comeback tour. The only catch is, none of them can remember any of their songs. Fortunately for them, the audience is around! Help them “remember” their songs and then see these performers improvise entire songs and harmonies right on the spot!
The Armando Diaz Experience
Also Thursday, this time at 9pm, you can see an amazingly funny, amazingly tricky feat of music, improvisation, and theater unfold right before your very eyes. This show is for everyone who’s ever seen a musical and thought “I like this, but there’s too much script.” Also, for anyone who likes to laugh. In this show, the performers work off of words given by the audience to create an entire musical on the spot! I’m not even going to try to describe this any further — you’ll just have to see it for yourself.
Orphan Alley
At 11pm, you will have another chance to see a musical assembled before your very eyes. The beautiful thing about this, though is that it doesn’t get boring — by definition, it’s new every time! Unlike The Armando Diaz Experience, where suggestions are taken from the audience on-the-spot, the Orphans have collected suggestions for weeks from audience members and other performers alike, and sealed them in envelopes. Once an envelope is chosen, the fun begins!
Improvisational theater is one of the most hilariously entertaining art forms there is. With its spur-of-the-moment, seat-of-the-pants energy, you can’t help but be caught up in the whirlwind of fun with the performers. So head on over on Seastreak! Our good service and luxurious experience is never improvised, so it should give a nice contrast to your evening. And in the end, isn’t contrast what improv is all about?
No. No it’s not.
Sea you Soon!
