Admit it. Going on vacation with the entire family in tow can be stressful. If you’re planning on going to the beach this weekend, and you KNOW that your little ones will get into trouble unless otherwise occupied, we’ve created a list of some fun beach activities and games that the entire family can enjoy.

Sandcastle building – Engineers and architects in the making will probably cite this activity as their favorite.  Build a grandiose castle close to the water, and be prepared to protect it from the oncoming waves.  Kids can spend hours building and rebuilding moats, walls and towers, and guarding them from watery intruders.

Tag – Be sure to play this game in an open space.  Kicking up sand while running may result in annoyed neighbors.  The rules are simple: the person who is “it” needs to touch another person, who, in turn, becomes “it”.  The best part about this classic game?  No tools are required!

Collecting – The beach is littered with beautiful shells, and stunning sea glass.  Grab a bucket, and explore the shore for little treasures. When you get home, make an art project with the found pieces!  When you’re out, be sure to warn your kids not to touch any glass without your OK.  Some of it isn’t quite smooth yet.

I Spy – One person starts by saying, “I spy with my little eye something _____,” and then proceeds to give a visual hint.  This game can be especially fun when taking Seastreak to Sandy Hook because of all of the sites you’ll see on the way!

Treasure hunting – You don’t have to be a pirate to play this game! All you need is a prize, pencil, paper, and creativity.  To play you need to bury something special, like a new beach toy, and mark the spot with an X.  Then work backwards and draw directions on how to get to this spot.  To make it even more fun, make up pirate names for the participants!

Cards – Playing a game of Go Fish or Solitaire is a great way to relax while drying off from a dip in the water.  All you need is a deck of cards!  There are great waterproof sets available so that a wet wrinkled corner won’t give away your ace.
